I passed all my exams: scored an A+ for both Business Law I and Intermediate Accounting I, an A for both Intermediate Accounting II and Cost Accounting, and an A- for Microcomputer Accounting Applications. That last one was a shock - 70% of the final grade for that class was based on coursework (of which I got 100% for all 10 assignments) so I thought I'd get an A or A+ overall no worries, but the exam was absolutely terrible. Actually it wasn't that bad, but it was frustratingly ambiguous in the way some of the questions were phrased, and in many cases there were two possible correct answers out of four or five multichoice, so really you had to be a mind reader to pick which one the professor wanted (saying both options were correct was apparently not given credit, even though it was technically correct) so I'm pretty annoyed about that - it actually dropped my GPA slightly. Another student from that class I've spoken to got a B for it and he's really pissed as he had a 4.0 GPA up till then - according to him nobody in the entire class got an A (or an A+), which is harsh. Anyway, I've now graduated with my Associate Degree (accounting major) with a final cumulative GPA of 3.94 which I'm reasonably happy with, although kind of annoyed at missing out on Valedictorian by so little. Whatever. Yay me. My last exam was on Thursday afternoon, so the next morning IceQueen and I hopped on a plane for a few days break together at Niagara Falls in Ontario, Canada. I'll write more about it in a day or so (including photos), for now I'll just say it was awesome just being able to spend some time together out of NYC and without the study / work distractions. We flew back to JFK airport on Tuesday evening, and I was back in class for the Summer semester at 8am the next morning (yesterday). eep. I'm studying Philosophy and Art History over this short semester - not that I really want to, but they are a few of the elective requirements for my Bachelors degree, so might as well get them out of the way sooner rather than later. Ok that's it for now. the date today
Tuesday 6 June, 2006 at 5:17AM (Nereus) :: permalink :: comments (3) Check it out - 06/06/06 ..should we be concerned? Probably. I've been up all night studying and I'm really buggered. I have one exam starting at 8:30am and another at 4:00pm - both are Accounting exams and both are vitally important. I had an exam in Cost Accounting yesteday at 4pm which sucked, but the way people were bailing early.. I figure they either cheated, or else they just gave up and left without completing the exam. If I don't get an A in that class, then I'll know they were cheating and messed up the curve (presuming there is a curve) because I know most people were pretty much lost in that class all semester. I'm not feeling confident about todays exams.. well, Accounting 21 (which is the morning exam) I haven't got less than 100% on any of the three exams during the semester, and the final is worth 25% of the total, so I'm pretty safe there - I'd have to fark the final up really bad to not get an A, but still, I don't want to get an A- if I can avoid it. Accounting 22 (the later exam today) I'm not so confident about - it's worth 40% of my final grade and I know by that time I'll be a walking zombie. Could be scary. Ok gotta go squeeze in another hour of study before I head out. Wish me luck. Oh btw, MT3.3beta is out. study
Friday 2 June, 2006 at 3:24PM (Nereus) :: permalink :: comments (5) My final exams start next week so it's all full-on study right now. My last classes were on Tuesday just gone, so I have a few days to just cram basically. Yesterday I got a heap of study done, and today was going really well too until about half an hour ago. Here's what's going on right now: ( I ) The neighbors directly behind us started playing basketball in their concrete 'backyard' - currently this only involves about four guys making a lot of noise, but you can guarantee within an hour that number will grow to about ten or twelve, if not more. This is a regular occurrence, but most often it's on the weekends. They will probably be there until sunset, unless we get another big electrical storm like we did last night. Did I mention they make a lot of noise? ( II ) The people who live next to them have a small pool for their young kids. The problem is that the father has a voice like a damn foghorn - very very loud and powerful, and he sure enjoys using it as loudly and as often as he can - in fact he's enjoying it right now. ( III ) If the above weren't enough to distract me, a team of gardeners just arrived at the property behind our building (which is where our apartment faces) - two gas-powered leaf blowers and a lawnmower all going at once. Joy. I just looked out the window - seven guys there now. With temperatures in the high 20's (celcius) and humidity around 80%, closing the windows is really not an option - not that it would make much difference cutting the sound down anyway. Probably a good time to have a break from study - I've got through a fair bit over the last few days so maybe a break is in order. Last night from about 9pm onwards we had one of the most intense lightning storms I've seen yet - the best part of an hour of non-stop thunder and multiple lightning flashes every few seconds. I spent most of that time hanging out the apartment window just watching the light show. There was still the occassional bolt of lightning two hours after the storm got here. Really impressive. |
