urban scrawl famous?
Thursday 24 June, 2004 at 6:39PM (Nereus) :: permalink :: comments (8) Happy Birthday to my sister Jo in Taupo! I trust your Brideshead Revisited party this weekend will be debaucherous if not completely out of control. Go hard, go loose, and go for coma. I just got off the phone with Jo and she had some rather interesting news to tell me. She was at a funeral the other day and was chatting to some guy (as ya do at funerals) ..the name escapes me; Adam was it? Anyway he is a Raglan surfer (maaaate, does that place pump or what?) and Jo mentioned Raglan was my local break for about 8 years before I moved to New York (Whale Bay mainly, and Indies). Adam (or whatever your name is) then asked Jo if I was the guy who wrote Urban Scrawl. When she said yes, he then told her my website was featured on some Sunday surfing/sports program on TVNZ a week or two ago and that it's really well known, famous even! Well fark, I had no idea. Sure I get a heap of visitors; sitting on nearly 88,000 hits currently, but that's neither here nor there (actually it's at the bottom of the page), so if I'm getting all these Kiwis visiting, why don't you Kiwis leave a friggin' comment?! (the current exception being James from NZ music site NoiZyland's noizyblog - cheers mate). I've still yet to meet another real Kiwi in NYC after 2½ years here, so any contact from back on the clean green shores of surf, sheep, gumboots and food without a preservative content in the double figures is most welcome, even if it's just to say gidday, kia ora, talofa or taunt me with how good the surf is at the moment there. Bring it. If you saw the program on TVNZ, please can you comment and let me know what program it was, which channel, and what date if possible. I have a cunning plan you see, and that sort of info would greatly assist me. My cunning plan relates to my currently non-existant career. Want me to elaborate? If enough people comment then maybe I will.. comments (8)
liz M, This is Liz, your Mum's next door neighbour. It's so wierd .. she showed me your website the other night and I said to her that I thought you'd missed your calling - that you should be a reporter. Your insight into things is amazing. Shame you didn't think to send something back to the NZ Herald post September 11th as I'm sure they would have published it. You should think about doing journalism by correspondence. What's there to loose?Hope you get the opportunity to bring IceQueen to NZ I'm sure she would love it. Take care. And good luck on your career advancement. Liz Nereus Woot! Kiwis! Hey Pete sorry the trip's not happening just yet, but hey, it doesn't mean it never will. Hiya Liz, thanks for the encouragement. It's been a weird day with about three unrelated people say the same thing (or along the same vein at least), which actually sounds a LOT more appealing than marketing/PR/sales/management. To top it off, Jo has a friend who works as a newspaper editor who she suggested I contact which I will look into when I have some more info. Pete, this is part of my cunning plan for a different career - journalism. I am hesitatant to talk about it or get too excited over the prospect; it seems every time I have in the past (regarding a job interviews etc) it usually doesn't eventuate. When that happens repeatedly over time it tends to become a bit depressing. Actually a lot depressing. Could my writing 'skeelz' be up to par for journalism do you think? I know I'd enjoy it, and enjoying what I do is FAR more important to me than fortune or climbing some predetermined corporate ladder overcrowded with backstabbing narcissists. I can't play that game, I refuse to mistreat people in order to further my own achievements (which unfortunately is not a good characteristic for anyone to have if they want to succeed in NYC). So there ya have it. Thoughts? Sarah cheers for dropping by. Have you been having fun with the MT3developer upgrade too? Damn thing barks like a dog. WOOF. james the current exception being James ahh, no worries mate. Much as I would love to live in the Big Apple, I find it much easier to do so vicariously via others. The only TV I watch at the moment is sports (All Blacks v. Argentian on Saturday night: humdrum that it was), and Smack the Pony, the UK comedy series (Friday nights on UKTV). Nereus hmm.. just found out the site has been linked & apparently? mentioned in relation to the recent post I wrote about 'Another Innocent Civilian Beheaded' on some radio show in L.A. called the david lawrence show.
