911 anniversary

US ribbon It's been two years since the World Trade Towers were attacked. Last night I noticed that the twin beams of light pointing straight up into the sky were back on again at the WTC site. Please spare a moment to reflect for the innocent thousands who perished that day.

There is a commemorative ceremony being held at the WTC site as I write which is also being aired on several television channels simultaneously. As was done last year, the names of all the victims of the attack are being read out to mark the anniversary of their passing.

Wow.. they just read the last name and two bugle players have started playing 'the last taps' ..pretty moving stuff. Interesting.. there's some uniformed British Bobbys (policemen) with a full size Union Jack (UK National flag) grouped with a bunch of NYPD who are bearing the US flag all together. Nice show of unity.

Just mentioned on the news: both this year and last year at the WTC site at the very moment the first plane hit, there has been a noticeable gust of wind down in the pit itself on what has otherwise been a relatively calm day. *stare*

the thing I remember most about this day, was watching a news clip that was aired shortly after the second tower collapsed. There was a little girl running down the sidewalk SCREAMING for her mother, and out of the clouds of dust and confusion, this huge firefighter (or maybe he just seemed huge due to the girl being so scared and little)crouched down in front of her and she jumped into his arms... if I am not mistaken there was a photo taken for one of the newspapers. At any rate, she laid her head on his shoulder and just started sobbing and he just shut his eyes and let her... OK I am going to stop typing because I'll get all upset again. Thanks for the mention though Nereus... it feels good sometimes to remember, oddly enough.

People kill (mostly) because they are lazy. Sounds unusual? It should, but it makes sense if you think about it. Rationalizing your differences is the passe method for resolving conflict.

Why spend years upon years talking when it's more expedient to bomb the shit out of those that piss you off?

Why spend that precious money that humanity worships when we can simply launch a few Tomahawks that have long been paid off?

Why deal with the frustration of making the opposite side understand your point of view when a well-placed round from a M-16 can do the trick with much less hassle?

It's ridiculous and barbaric. The human race of today calls itself an "enlightened" and "diplomatic" people. That's like saying that the Norse Berzerkers or the Roman Legion the were kind and neighborly.

Forgive me for ranting.

Jim-
rant on my friend because you're writing what a lot of people are thinking.
