icebergs floating down the hudson

      Wednesday 22 January, 2003 at 6:08PM (Nereus)  ::  permalink  ::  comments (0)

ice cube It's been freezing cold here, seriously. Today for example when I got up it was something like -9°C, with wind chill factor down to -15°C (5°F) and according to the weather channel, tomorrow is going to be even colder, with wind chill going to -20°C ...sick. The temperature has not been above 0°C for over a week. What is really annoying is that despite all this cold, there has been zero precipitation - translation: no snow. I want to frolic in the snow! I'm not amused! You can stop laughing now. There are icebergs floating down the Hudson River, something that has not been seen for quite a few years, or so I hear.

our new years eve

Hey. Hope you had a groovy new years eve night. We headed to Cat and Lemurs place for the evening and the Cat put on a huge feed. Everything tasted amazing as it always does and there was enough to feed a small army, along with a few bottles of wine and a bottle of Moet that was cracked open at midnight. Styling. We ended up staying the night there and all the next day as well, eventually heading home around 10pm last night feeling extremely stuffed, happy and content. I had some Reece's Pieces for the first time in years, I forgot how good they were. yummo.

The Cat had given their kitchen a makeover and it looks so much better than it did before - much warmer and less like a cold interrogation room (ok that's an exaggeration about an interrogation room, but it gives a good contrast to what it looks like now). What I didn't realize until after we left is that she did it herself over the day or two before we came over, and here was I thinking it was done professionally. I'm impressed.

Times Square did its usual thing. I had a little worry in the back of my mind that something bad might happen there - I mean hey, there's like a million Americans all packed in to one place, it would be a prime spot for some fanatical tosser terrorist to go berserk. The police presence was strong and they control the crowd in a big way. What they do is set up square 'pens' that are effectively fenced off using waist-high police barricades and they corral people into these pens like cattle. Once you're in a pen you're stuck there - if you leave you can't come back. Too bad if you need to take a dump.

Just sifting around the net.. on this day back 1939, Time magazine named chancellor Adolf Hitler "Man of the Year." ..doh!
